Rigs are used in stop motion animation to make the puppets move completely freely. They are hinged metal rods that can hold the puppets or any other object you want to animate without them needing to be on an actual surface.cie.
We often have to come up with a choreography in order to coordinate all the movements. The more characters and elements there are in the air, the more complicated the shooting becomes.
The issue is that when working with ‘rigs’ the shot is full of rods. This difficulty is solved thanks to the talent of the post-production team, who make the rods ‘disappear’ almost as if by magic.
